THE HAATHKALIKA FAIR

The Hatkalika Fair in Uttaranchal is an important event among the other fairs and festivals in Uttaranchal. Some of the other important fairs and festivals are Tapkeshwar Fair, Surkhanda Devi Mela, Lakhawar Village Fair, Kunjapuri Fair, and Mata Murti Ka Mela. The Hatkalika Fair in Uttaranchal is held on the ashtami of Chaitra month. You can come to the Kalika temple at Gangolihat and get to see the fun and frolic and the riot of colors that are associated with this festival. People come here with drums and flags to pay their respect to the goddess Kalika.

There are different areas in Uttaranchal and each of these areas especially that of the Garhwal and Kumaon regions have numerous ancient temples. On the auspicious occasions these become the centre of faith. These are the venues of several fascinating festivals and innumerable people from far and wide. There is a huge gathering of people and all of them come here to offer their respect to the deity and also give musical expression to their contentment, joy and happiness.

There are numerous other fairs and festivals that are celebrated in the Kumaon region are the Uttarayani Mela, Kartik Poornima at Dwarahat, Shravan Mela (Jageshwar), Kasar Devi fair and Nanda Devi melas.
